This year, at the beginning of the second term, our class was involved in a cultural exchange program with a Polish institute. Our teacher is in contact with an English teacher who works in Poland and she asked us if we wanted to share our culture with the Polish students, and they would do the same. Of course we accepted.
We were divided into groups and each one of them had to produce an engaging video to present a different aspect of our city: Genoa. The presentation had to keep the audience captivated and interested.
The theme of our group was the ancient history (video by Endlich, Fossa, Gambellini, Moran) of our city so we showed the path of Superba through the centuries: from the Punic wars to today talking about important monuments and characters.
Another group talked about the two football teams of our city: Genoa and Sampdoria (video by Margiocco, Micheli, Torre, Trentini). They decided to do research and talk about the history of the two teams and the best players of each one. They found all of the relevant information on the Internet, in websites like Wikipedia, but also on newspapers, like “Secolo XIX”.
Another group talked about Genoa’s main monuments (video by Auxilia, Bonioli, Boracco, Hoxha) like the “Rolli Palaces” which are the most famous. The group also talked about some major inventions made by the Genoese like nautical charts and also the compass, which were very important for the trade of the maritime republic.
Two groups made a tour of all our school “Liceo D’Oria” showing its premises. One group mainly focused on the different rooms (video by Armenante, Berri, Bianco, Pizzorno) of our school like the classrooms, the gym, the famous “Aula Magna”, the library and much more. The other one talked about its history (video by Moro, Odetti, Patarini, Squeri), when it was built and how, but also talked about the different events that we have in our high school and what we do during recess.
One group had to talk about the food (video by Cacciabaudo, Castino, Guetta, Paganini). They spoke about how it is made, its ingredients and history throughout the years.
The last group had the task to show all of the maritime sites (video by Olivieri, Percivale, Vaccari, Vignali) of our city. They talked about four main sites: The Aquarium, the Lantern, Nervi and finally Boccadasse. These are among the most known sights all over the world.
When we finished we sent our presentation and waited for a response. After a few days, the Polish students sent us their presentation with some images. It wasn’t very interesting compared to our work!
Very soon we are also going to do a video call with them, so we will finally get to know each other.
Our class really enjoyed this group project. We had the opportunity to find out much more information about our city than a lot of us knew about. It was also very useful to learn a lot of digital skills and how to collaborate for this project.
We can’t wait to meet the Polish class!
Thanks to everybody until next time!!
